Kimmy & Ben’s Story
Kimmy* and Ben* recently brought their daughter into Thrive Forward for baby supplies—a full-circle moment that filled our hearts with joy. Just last winter, Kimmy sat in our ultrasound room with tears in her eyes—tears of fear, overwhelm, and uncertainty. She came to us completely alone, facing unstable housing and many other obstacles. The thought of carrying this pregnancy amidst so many challenges felt impossible.
As she watched the ultrasound screen, shocked to realize she was further along than she thought, Kimmy was captivated by the tiny, active life before her eyes. Her heart softened with a growing desire to parent—even as the fear remained.
Her Patient Care Assistant prayed with her and shared encouragement and resources. Kimmy was nervous to tell Ben and her mom that she was pregnant, but to her surprise, they both responded with love and support. She also had a compassionate friend who walked with her every step of the way. Over the next few critical weeks, that support system—along with Thrive’s practical help—gave her the courage to move forward.
As we waved goodbye to this precious family, gratitude filled our hearts; we were reminded again how God takes what feels desperate and dark, and floods it with His glorious light. As Kimmy and Ben celebrate their baby’s first Christmas, we’re reminded of the beauty of the Christmas story—that Jesus came to meet us right where we are, bringing life and light to a weary world in need of His saving grace and compassion.
