Some of the most influential life-affirming words we can speak are the ones we say before someone ever faces an unplanned pregnancy.
When people know their church family will embrace them with unconditional love, compassion, and practical support, they're more likely to feel safe asking for help when they need it most. And if they ever face an unplanned pregnancy and feel tempted to hide it or end it out of fear of rejection, remembering that promise of support could make all the difference.
This Sanctity of Life Sunday, let's make that promise:
1. Share the “Church Promise” this Sanctity of Life Sunday. Hearing the words from their church leader will have a profound impact on your church members and their guests, whether they are in an unplanned pregnancy now, or will be in 2 years from now.
2. Highlight how your church supports your local Pregnancy Resource Center. This tangible support speaks volumes for people in unplanned pregnancy who feel alone and don’t know where to turn.
Why this promise matters:
It's easy to think of abortion as an “over there” issue that doesn't affect our church family. But according to research by LifeWay, 43% of women who have had an abortion were attending a Christian church at least monthly at the time of one of their abortion. Many never told anyone in their church about their pregnancy, often out of fear of judgment or rejection.
What if they had known, before ever facing an unplanned pregnancy, that their church would be a safe place to turn for compassionate support?
By making this promise publicly, churches can help break the cycle of silence, fear, and isolation that leaves so many facing unplanned pregnancies alone. These simple words can help save lives and ensure parents don't have to walk alone.
